Cocktail Party Guidelines - shaken not stirred

So you're getting ready to host a cocktail party (drinking extravagenza, housewarming, etc) and you're trying to put together a shopping list. How many bottles? How much ice? Mixers? Below is a guideline to make this process a bit easier:

Ice: You'll need ice not only for drinks but also to cool champagne, white wine, and of course Vodka. You'll be safe with 1 pound of ice per each guest.

Glasses: Make sure to provide a variety of glasses - wine, martini, and basic drink glasses. Put out twice as many glasses as there will be guests.
*a good idea is provide glass charms so that guests can identify their drinking vessels (DIY glass charms blog entry coming soon)

Must Haves: Make sure to stock up on a few key alcoholic beverages that will please everyone - Vodka, Whiskey, Wine, and Beer

Mixers: A good combination of mixers will keep your guests happy and drinking. Pick up OJ, Soda, Tonic, Cola, Lemons, and Limes

Rule of Thumb for Champagne and Wine Consumption: for a 2 hour party get 1 bottle per every 2 guests

Rule of Thumb for Spirit Consumption: 1 drink per person per hour (and multiply this by 25% to be safe)

Remember - if it's a hot day or you're serving salty/spicy food you will need to provide more ice, mixers, and drinks.
