Boutonnieres - An Underappreciated Detail

Boutonnieres are usually the least discussed wedding flower topic. Bouquets, centerpieces, and cocktail arrangements always overshadow the boutonniere. But that does NOT mean that this tiny wedding detail should be forgotten. And the best thing about these little pin-ons? They make great keepsakes, maybe for that wedding scrapbook you're working on?

A great original boutonniere is the pinecone boutonniere seen on MarthaStewartWeddings.com. This is a fun, inexpensive, and easy DIY project that you can do while watching TV in the evenings (how cute!).

Another fab idea is for beach weddings - how about making a boutonniere out of small seashells? Again, all you'll need is some glue, ribbon, and some seashells - fast, inexpensive, and a memorable keepsake for sure. (weddingbycolor.com image)

Lastly, lets not forget the paper boutonnieres - simple to construct and fun to scrapbook. Check out www.mydiyweddingday.com for some great ideas.

Tips:

- For all those hugs you guys will get - ask your florist to make two boutonnieres for your man: one for the ceremony and one for the photos.

- To really make that boutonniere pop - pick flowers that pop with color and have interesting texture (think marigolds)

- And guys, boutonnieres are not only for weddings!!! Spruce up your next evening outfit with a fun boutonniere.
